Textile storyteller
Japanese textile artist Chiaki Fujii is based in Japan and is best known for her sensitive expressions of nature and the colors of the world.
She spent part of her childhood living in Germany with her family, and this experience has quietly shaped her sensibility. Within her, a sense of both Japanese and German cultural roots coexists, gently influencing her perception of color, nature, and material.
At the heart of her practice lies a sense of serendipity—a belief that each encounter with materials, colors, and natural elements happens by chance, yet always carries meaning. Her work begins with these unexpected discoveries, where small moments of coincidence gently unfold into the creation of color.
Her textiles are developed through handmade dyes, formed from devoted research into minerals and plants, and shaped through encounters and a dialogue with nature.

Alongside her practice as an independent artist, she currently lectures at her former
a Junior college of art.
After studying the fundamentals of dyeing at a Junior college of art, Chiaki entered the world of fashion design and pattern-making in Tokyo and Paris. She later left the fashion industry and gradually shifted toward her own artistic practice in order to deepen her work as an artist. Over time, she began exhibiting her work in Germany and Japan, lovingly nurturing her own artistic language and style.
Her approach to dyeing is deeply rooted in respect for traditional Japanese dyeing techniques, while continuously reinterpreting them through her own gaze.
All processes of Chiaki’s textiles are carried out solely by herself. She designs, produces screen prints, and combines them with self-made natural dyes to create her unique textile works.
In recent years, in addition to her own artwork, she have been weaving stories together with cherished people who share a deep resonance.
